Description
mAT-180H Antenna Tuner
The mAT-180H is an automatic antenna tuner intended for use with modern Icom and Kenwood transceivers. The antenna tuner works with Icom transceivers that support AH-3 or AH-4 Icom tuner. The mAT-180H Antenna Tuner works with Kenwood transceivers that support AT-250 and AT-300 Kenwood tuner.
Compatible Icom devices include: IC-706, IC-703, IC-718, IC-7000, IC-7100, IC-7200, IC-7300, IC-7400, IC-7410, IC-746, IC-756, IC-7600, IC7610 The operation works the same as with an Icom tuner.
Compatible Kenwood devices include: TRC-80, TK-80, TS-2000, TS-50, TS-450, TS-480 SAT, TS-570, TS-590, TS-850, TS-870, TS-890, TS-990. The controls work the same as with a Kenwood tuner.
The mAT-180H has a range of 1.8 MHz to 54 MHz. The maximum acceptable PEP power is 120 watts. So this applies to SSB and CW. For PSK and Digimodes, the maximum acceptable power is 30 watts. It can tune virtually any coax-fed antenna. Use the HF kits ATU Choke BalUn to use the mAT-180H for a symmetrical antenna.
The antenna tuner has a wide tuning range, much larger than some other tuners, including the built-in tuners on many radios.
Operation
The mAT-180H is connected to the transceiver via its tuner jack. The antenna tuner is operated from the transceiver. The tuner jack also powers the antenna tuner, so no external power supply is needed. Tuning occurs when the TUNE button on the front of the transceiver is pressed and held for one second.
The mAT-180H has 16,000 frequency memories. When tuning to or near a previously tuned frequency, the mAT-180H uses “Memory Tune” to recall the previous tuning parameters in a fraction of a second. If no memory is available, the tuner performs a full tuning cycle and stores the parameters for recall from memory on subsequent tuning cycles on that frequency. In this way, the mAT-180H “learns” as it is used and, over time, quickly adapts to previously used frequencies.
The transceiver’s included control cable is approximately 1 meter long.
For your information:
The mAT-180H can also operate independently without being controlled from a transceiver. In this case, the tuner needs a supply voltage of 13.8 volts. Note that tuning is always done with limited transmit power (Max 10 Watts). This antenna tuner can also be manually adjusted, so you can manually search for an optimum, the correct setting can be saved with the “save” key. This will be linked to the frequency of work. This tuner also features three LEDs that roughly display the SWR. The banana plug connections are suitable for a long-wire antenna and ground connection, so it is not a balanced (symmetrical) output. Use the HF kits ATU Choke BalUn to use the mAT-180H for a symmetrical (feedline) antenna.
