Description

mAT-40 Antenna Tuner

The mAT-40 is an automatic antenna tuner intended for use with modern Icom, Yaesu and Kenwood transceivers. The mAT-40 tuner is specially made to be placed directly at the feed point of a vertical or long-wire antenna. As a result, fewer losses occur in the coaxial cable.

The antenna tuner works with Icom transceivers supporting AH-3 or AH-4 Icom tuner, with YAESU transceivers supporting FC-30 , FC-40 or FC-50 Yaesu tuner, with Kenwood transceivers supporting AT-250 and AT-300 Kenwood tuner.

Compatible Icom devices include: IC-706, IC-703, IC-718, IC-7000, IC-7100, IC-7200, IC-7300, IC-7400, IC-7410, IC-746, IC-756, IC-7600, IC7610. The controls work the same as with an Icom tuner.

Compatible Yaesu devices include: FT-100,FT-857D,FT-897D,FT-450D,FT-891,FT-950,FT-991,FT-991A, FT-710, FTDX-3000, FTDX-10. The controls work the same as with a Yaesu tuner.

Compatible Kenwood devices include: TRC-80, TK-80, TS-2000, TS-50, TS-450, TS-480 SAT, TS-570, TS-590, TS-850, TS-870, TS-890, TS-990. The controls work the same as with a Kenwood tuner.

The mAT-40 has a range of 1.8 MHz to 54 MHz. The maximum acceptable PEP power is 120 watts. So this applies to SSB and CW. For PSK and Digimodes, the maximum acceptable power is 30 watts. It can match almost any length of wire. The antenna tuner has a wide tuning range, much larger than some other tuners, including the built-in tuners on many radios.

Operation

The mAT-40 is connected to the transceiver via its tuner jack. The antenna tuner is operated from the transceiver. The tuner jack also powers the antenna tuner, so no external power supply is needed. Tuning occurs when the TUNE button on the front of the transceiver is pressed and held for one second.

The mAT-40 has 16,000 frequency memories. When tuning to or near a previously tuned frequency, the mAT-40 uses “Memory Tune” to recall the previous tuning parameters in a split second. If no memory is available, the tuner performs a full tuning cycle and stores the parameters for recall from memory on subsequent tuning cycles on that frequency. In this way, the mAT-40 “learns” as it is used and, over time, quickly adapts to previously used frequencies.

The included control cable from the transceiver to the tuner is 10 meters long.
