Description

mAT-30 Antenna Tuner

The mAT-30 is an automatic antenna tuner intended for use with modern YAESU transceivers. The mAT-30 Antenna Tuner works with YAESU transceivers that support an FC-30 , FC-40 or FC-50 YAESU tuner. Compatible devices include: FT-100,FT-857D,FT-897D,FT-450D,FT-891,FT-950,FT-991,FT-991A, FT-710, FTDX-3000, FTDX-10 The controls are the same as those of the YAESU tuner.

The mAT-30 has a range of 1.8 MHz to 54 MHz. The maximum acceptable PEP power is 120 watts. So this applies to SSB and CW. For PSK and Digimodes, the maximum acceptable power is 30 watts. It can tune virtually any coax-fed antenna. Use the HF kits ATU Choke BalUn to use the mAT-30 for a symmetrical antenna.

The antenna tuner has a wide tuning range, much larger than some other tuners, including the built-in tuners on many radios.

Operation

The mAT-30 is connected to the transceiver via its CAT/LINEAR connector. The antenna tuner is operated from the transceiver. The CAT/LINEAR connection also powers the tuner, so no external power supply is needed. Tuning occurs when the TUNE button on the front of the transceiver is pressed and held for one second.

The mAT-30 has 16,000 frequency memories. When tuning to or near a previously tuned frequency, the mAT-30 uses “Memory Tune” to recall the previous tuning parameters in a split second. If no memory is available, the tuner performs a full tuning cycle and stores the parameters for recall from memory on subsequent tuning cycles on that frequency. In this way, the mAT-30 “learns” as it is used and, over time, quickly adapts to previously used frequencies.

The mAT-CY control cable of the mAT-30 provides control signals between the YAESU transceiver and the tuner. As the illustration shows, the control cable has two mini-DIN 8-pin plugs. Press and hold the [TUNER] key on the transceiver for two seconds to start tuning. Press [TUNER] quickly to bypass the tuner.

The transceiver’s included control cable is about 50 centimeters long. If it is desired to place the mAT-30 further from the transceiver than this cable length allows, a custom cable will need to be made or purchased.

The mAT-30 Antenna Tuner does not support YAESU FT-817/818.
